Volunteer Opportunities

  • Overview

Speakers Bureau
Our Speakers Bureau links professionals representing diverse health professions to career seekers in order to inform, motivate and empower students to pursue attainable health career goals.

We need volunteers from all health professions including mental health, public health, and health law. If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please e-mail us at

Chicago AHEC Health Careers Promotion & Preparation sites include:
  • Gage Park High School
  • Thornton High School
  • Instituto Health Sciences Career Academy
  • Hales Franciscan
  • Computer Systems Institute

We also have an ongoing partnership with the Chicago Public Schools and the Michael Reese Health Trust to connect speakers to high schools that are part of a health careers pipeline pilot program. Apply to be part of the Chicago Public Schools Speakers Bureau. After registering to be a member of our Speakers Bureau, we will send you an acknowledgement e-mail containing a link to a survey that asks questions to help us better match you with speaking opportunities.

Community-Based Student Education

Chicago AHEC provides job shadowing opportunities in community based settings to high school sophomores and juniors.  We are looking for individuals and organizations who are willing to participate in our job shadowing program. Chicago AHEC strives to provide individuals interested in the health profession with a comprehensive understanding of the health care workplace.  If you are interested in participating in our job shadowing program  click here.

Service Learning is a teaching and learning strategy that integrates meaningful community service with instruction and reflection to enrich the learning experience, teach civic responsibility, and strengthen communities.

Chicago AHEC supports service learning activities related to community health issues.  If you have any service learning ideas or projects you would like to see implemented, please email Sharon Powell at
