SUMMARY:Solidarity Summit: A People's Agenda
DESCRIPTION:We will not be divided!\n\nYou are invited to the Solidarity Summit: A People’s Agenda\, a Chicago-area in-person gathering. The current national government’s cruel policies make the struggle for human rights all the more urgent and far more difficult. Only by acting together in solidarity will the people prevail over oppression and make justice a reality. \nPoliticians scapegoat people to unjustly cast blame on those who they have chosen to otherize and oppress. These attacks focus the public’s attention on an invented “other\,” distracting us from the collective struggle for justice to be fought against the ruling class and oligarchs. \nDo you want to see a multi-racial and multi-cultural society of people living with all of our human needs fulfilled and each of our human rights and dignity intact? Do you want to fight the forces of reaction? If so\, please join us at this event. \nThis cross-community gathering will be a train-the-trainer session focused on disrupting the use of immigration as a wedge to divide communities. \nWe ask participants to be willing to put this toolbox to use by: \n\nHosting conversations in your faith institutions\, block clubs\, unions\, and other civic organizations.\nUsing the provided tools and materials for engaging people in healthy conversations about supporting immigrants and long-term residents of our communities alike\, developing a stronger sense of solidarity in action for demanding human rights for all.\n\nWhile this event is free to attend\, we are accepting optional donations at checkout to offset the costs of the summit. \nClick here to register. \nDetails \n\n\n\n\n\nSaturday\, May 17\, 2025 \n\n10 a.m. – 3 p.m. (lunch provided) \nSEIU Healthcare \n2229 S Halsted St \nChicago\, IL 60608 \nParking is available in the back and on the street.

SUMMARY:Illinois Has a Multi-Sector Plan on Aging: What Are the Next Steps?
DESCRIPTION:Friday\, February 6 | 8:30–10:30 a.m. CT  \nIllinois has released its new Multi-Sector Plan for Aging—a landmark\, 10-year roadmap to advance aging equity across the lifespan. The question now is: what comes next?  \nThe ASA Chicagoland Roundtable\, co-sponsored by Health & Medicine Policy Research Group\, invites partners and community members to join us for a timely conversation exploring the newly released plan\, key implementation considerations\, and how it connects to ongoing community-level efforts across Illinois.  \nDuring this roundtable\, participants will hear directly from Illinois Department on Aging leadership about the plan’s development and priorities\, followed by reflections from statewide leaders on what it will take to translate vision into action.  \nProgram Highlights  \n\nOverview of Illinois’s new Multi-Sector Plan for Aging \nReflections on implementation\, coordination\, and accountability \nDiscussion of how community organizations\, advocates\, and systems can support the plan’s goals \n\nBackground  \nIn August 2024\, Governor JB Pritzker issued Executive Order 24-02\, calling for the development of a 10-year\, whole-of-government plan to advance aging equity across Illinois. Since then\, the Illinois Department on Aging has convened a community advisory council and a task force of state agency leaders to guide this work.  \nWith the hiring of Michelle Hoersch as Chief Planning Officer\, the Department partnered with experts from the UIC Institute on Race and Public Policy and the School of Public Health to lead a robust engagement process. Beginning in August 2025\, older adults\, caregivers\, providers\, advocates\, researchers\, and elected officials from across the state contributed their perspectives through listening sessions and consultations.  \nHealth & Medicine Policy Research Group organized nine of these engagement sessions\, both in person and remotely\, ensuring voices from across Illinois helped shape the plan. In December\, the advisory council and task force concluded their work\, and the Department met its December 31 deadline—an impressive achievement given the scale and complexity of the effort.  \nHealth & Medicine leads Illinois Aging Together\, a statewide campaign advocating for policies and systems that support healthy\, equitable aging for all Illinoisans. Through cross-sector collaboration and community-informed advocacy\, Illinois Aging Together helped drive the development and adoption of Illinois’s statewide Multi-Sector Plan for Aging.  \nSpeakers  \n\nMary Killough\, Director\, Illinois Department on Aging \nMichelle Hoersch\, Chief Planning Officer\, Illinois Department on Aging \nPhilippe Largent\, State Director\, AARP Illinois \nDiane Slezak\, President & CEO\, AgeOptions \n\nModerator: Michael Gelder\, MHA\, Consultant; Adjunct Research Assistant Professor\, University of Illinois Chicago; Board Member\, Health & Medicine Policy Research Group  \nWe hope you’ll join us for this important conversation about how Illinois can move from planning to action—and ensure the promise of aging equity becomes reality across the state.

SUMMARY:Illinois Community-Based Birth Justice Strategic Plan Launch Series
DESCRIPTION:Health & Medicine and the Black Midwifery Collective invite you to the official launch of the Illinois Community-Based Birth Justice Strategic Plan!   \nOver the past year and a half\, dozens of community-based birth justice workers have supported the development of a new strategic plan that works to ensure that every birthing person in Illinois has access to the community resources\, settings\, and support that they need for a safe and positive perinatal and birth experience. Several partners collected a huge amount of data to understand our current landscape and to inform our priorities for the plan.   \nJoin us Fridays in February for a four-part webinar series that centers community-led research\, connects shared themes across the data\, and culminates in the official launch of the Illinois Community-Based Birth Justice Strategic Plan. Participants are welcome to attend any combination of sessions that fit their interests and availability. \nAll sessions are held via Zoom\n10:00 – 11:30 a.m.\nSessions are recorded and shared with registrants. \nZoom registration link
